The recent release of Breathedge is a humorous space survival game. It is a space adventure spiced with black satire.
Redruins Softworks is a small independent studio founded in 2017. All 5 members of the team have come a long way from couch to computer, and have half a century of combined game development experience under their belt. The studio’s flagship project is Breathedge, yet to be released, but has already won prestigious awards such as: “Mother’s Approval”, “Well done! From the forum man” and, of course, “showed a friend – liked it!
A little bit about the plot. As you can see from the trailer, the action will take place in space. The main character – a man, taking his grandfather on his last journey. Space coffin, space funeral and all that. But then an explosion occurs, and the shuttlecraft to which the player was docked is blown apart. The only undamaged shuttle is our shelter. It has a means of communication – a broken intercom which has to be repaired, there is a toilet, a workbench, a VCR with a cassette and a bed.
Crafting. The man has to examine the wreckage of the liner and find a way to get to the evacuation point. To do this, you need to assemble a means of transportation, make a supply of oxygen, and in the process do not die of hunger or thirst. To create equipment and tools, you need resources that are plentiful in the area: metal, ice, rubber, and wire. Some of these will require simpler tools to collect.
Early Access. Breathedge is currently in early access and has only one chapter. There are four more chapters planned, which will shed light on what really happened to the liner. The game’s intro video talks about an attack by some radical Green Universe group, which may be why our airliner exploded, we’ll find out in the following chapters.
Breathedge Chapter Two. Continuation, the second chapter is promised to be released by the end of the year. It expects a lot of new features. First, the game world will expand and you can explore the rest of the liner or something else. And the expansion will be so big, that it will be difficult to explore it on foot. Secondly, a space Zaporozhets will be added – a means of transportation and exploration of the open world. In the third, there will be new tools, entertainment, base construction, and a bunch of useless things from the developers.
Over the last year a lot of good survival games have been released and they are all unique and interesting in their own way. If we compare them to Breathedge, the story is reminiscent of the game Subnautica, which came out earlier this year. It tells a similar story of lonely survival and finding a way back home. The graphics reminded me a lot of Bioshock, too familiar these robot coffins and interior decoration in the shuttle.
While the release date of the second chapter of Breathedge is unknown, but that won’t stop me from telling my story about passing this wonderful and very fun game on this blog.
